The 2023 Spätburgunder Saulheimer Hölle is from 50-year-old German Ritter clones. A ripe red cherry
aroma shines on the nose and a touch of crushed citrus foliage adds a lovely headiness with a hint of
mint. The palate is dense with dark tannins, like the finest cocoa. The fruit is pristine, with fine acidity
and a certain streak of wilderness, of untamed determination that still has to calm down. The tannins
are crunchy for now, with a gorgeous purity. Give this time. It is a lovely treasure that is full of energy
and personality. The 2023 brings all the drive of the site into the glass. (Bone-dry)

The 2022 Spätburgunder Saulheimer Hölle was harvested from 50 years old vines, of German Ritter
genetics. A touch of fresh verbena joins ripe dark cherry on the nose. The palate comes in with far
more brightness and coolness, presenting superfine tannins that are dense and live off a sense of the
finest dark chocolate. The texture is still slightly drying, but it’s so fine and dense without heft. This

Der Jahrgang 2021 war der späteste in der Reifung, er hatte zudem am meisten Niederschläge. Angesichts der grossen Herausforderungen ist Johannes Thörle sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Die Weiterentwicklung im Weingut hat dazu geführt, dass dieser Jahrgang sogar über dem 2015er steht. Der Duft ist so unglaublich verführerisch mit einem delikaten Mix aus reifer Frucht und herrlich würziger Frische. Das Bouquet zeigt, dass der Wein viel Charakter und Tiefgang mit sich bringt. The 2021 Spätburgunder Saulheimer Hölle was harvested from vines planted in 1971 to a German
massal selection by Ritter with very compact bunches. The nose shows red cherry tinged with
mulberry and a mere touch of licorice. The palate is dense and has a really sinuous groove with much
depth and more tannic concatenation. Bright acidity shines a light on chocolate cherry, Morello and
mulberry and reinforces this with smatterings of white pepper. The 2021 is dense and rather

From vines up to 44 years old, the 2020 Saulheimer Hölle Spätburgunder opens with a deep, intense and darker-toned bouquet of black berries, blackcurrant, black cherries and very fine toast and also saline notes. Aged for 18 months in 40% new and 60% used French barriques, this is a full-bodied, intense and silky-textured Pinot with fine tannins and crystalline acidity. The finish is warm, intense and fruity yet still firm and straight, leaving the palate with salivating tannins and fine bitters. A promising, very good Pinot Noir indeed. Tasted as a sample just before bottling in August 2022.
