The 2024 Riesling Saulheimer Hölle is from a steep, sheltered south-facing slope with high active lime.
There is just a flicker of smoke and tangerine on the citric nose. Despite the hot site, this brings
coolness. Lemon pervades and radiates, driving forward with utter concentration and brightness. The
saltiness makes for a long, luminous finish of a pristine nature. (Bone-dry)

Mit bis zu 45% Kalkanteil im Boden mit Lehm und Tonanteil spielt das Terroir eine entscheidende Rolle. Das
Mikroklima der Lage Hölle ist ebenso prägend. Die Lage auf 150–240 m ü. M. ist windgeschützt und etwas kühler,
mit grösseren Temperaturunterschieden. Im Herbst hat man jedoch mildere Temperaturen und auch einen
besseren Wasserspeicher im Boden. Ausbau zu rund 70% in alten Stück- und Halbstückfässern und zu 30% im
Stahl.

The 2024 Hölle Saulheim Riesling is deep and intense on the elegant and coolish nose that mingles
saline terroir notes with generous yet precise stone fruit and some flint stone aromas. Full-bodied,
savory and saline on the palate, this is a generous and elegant, stimulating, vital and salivating
Riesling with fine tannins, remarkable finesse and tension and really fine grip.

Die Lage Hölle hat das kalkhaltigste Terroir, was die Weine entsprechend prägt. Sehr verführerisch, tiefgründig, karg und feinfruchtig zugleich duftet dieser Riesling aus dem Glas. Die puristische Ausprägung mit viel Kraft ist für mich der ideale Charakter für einen grossen Riesling. Zarte zitrische Aromatik, mit nobler Würze unterlegt und mit viel Frische gepaart. Schmelz und knackige Säure im Auftakt geben dem Wein seinen weichen, raffinierten Trinkfluss. Äusserst präzise definiert und ausgebaut, total auf Feinheit gebaut. Der Hölle Riesling wirkt sehr nobel vom ersten Nasenkontakt bis ins lange Finale. Ein intensiver und gleichzeitig sehr puristischer, grosser Riesling. (pb)

The 2022 Riesling Saulheimer Hölle is from a fully south-facing site with vines that are 37 and 25
years old, rooting in white, porous limestone soils that have more than 40% of active limestone and a
gradient of 40%. The nose opens with subtle peach and ripe Mirabelle, edged with the spice of
grapefruit peel. A later sniff reveals an aromatic with peach note. The palate is serene, lithe, clear,
bright and tingling with freshness. There is something vertical here that digs into the cool depth with
a very smooth, subtle texture that is more zesty than pithy. Lovely, elegant, cool and with a long and
serene lemon finish. (Bone-dry)

Raffinierter kann ein Duft nicht sein, das ist ein zartes, beinahe scheues Pflänzchen, aber was da an vielfältigen Duftnoten versammelt ist, kann unser Geruchsinn kaum aufnehmen, die Fülle ist immens. Aber alles ist irgendwie nur ganz leicht angetönt, vereint sich zu einem Duftbild von atemberaubender Schönheit. Der Wein füllt den Gaumen mit himmlischen Aromen und schwebt davon, auch hier lockt er mit der immensen Vielfalt, dieses Spiel betört die Sinne, das ist zutiefst berührend, unglaublich was dieses zarte Pflänzchen zu bieten hat, am Schluss wird es noch beinahe spektakulär, alles immer auf superzartem Niveau. The 2021 Saulheimer Hölle Riesling opens with the purest/stoniest but also the most aromatic bouquet of Thörle's Rieslings. On the palate, this is a full-bodied yet pure, enormously vital and fresh, mouth-tickling dry Riesling with a dense structure and a long, mineral finish that is still a bit drying at this early stage. This is a characterful dry Riesling with an almost austere personality. It's not a wine for hedonists but possibly one for lovers of the art of Jordan Wolfson or reductive Champagnes that didn't undergo malolactic fermentation.
